Saturday Spotlight: Volume 022An Interview with-Azenoire:iconAzenoire:Azenoire's Gallery> Please introduce yourself, in your own words. What are your interests? My name is Dimitris and I hail from Hellas. In my childhood memories and throughout my 38 years on this earth I've messed around with the arts: it was a natural instict, a way to express nearly everything. I focused on my greatest love, music: I was a DJ for many years and I compose my own music. Later, I finally found the time to deal with photography and to express my feelings through a camera, an overlay/texture (or many...) in any way I can, and with any means at hand. Other than these two interests, I must say I am a quiet guy: I ha

Saturday Spotlight: Volume 015An Interview with-ra-gro:iconra-gro:ra-gro's Gallery> Please introduce yourself, in your own words. What are your interests?Hallo. My name is Ralf, I'm 45 years old, and I'm from Bremen in Germany. My interests are primarily music and photography, along with movies and painting.> Where did you begin with artistic endeavours? How did you come across Abstraction or Surrealism? At first I started with abstract traditional painting as a means to express myself. As I reached my limits in that medium I experimented more and more with abstract and surreal photography, but now it's more the post-poressing of those images towards digital painting that f

I love photography and music; far too much music, I may add.> Where did you begin with artistic endeavours? How did you come across Abstraction or Surrealism?I've always been interested in art from a very early age, mainly because my dad was an abstract painter. I'd be the only kid in the street with oil paint on his clothes while the other k

Saturday Spotlight: Volume 26An Interview with-TeresaClark:iconTeresaClark:TeresaClark's Gallery> Please introduce yourself, in your own words. What are your interests? My name is Teresa Clark, and I was born in 1974 in Mexico City. I am a painter but I'm also interested in many things which usually interact, like cinema, nature, music, psychology, literature, etcetera. Since life is short, I've devoted myself to one activity, painting, that fulfils my needs and desires; yet I've done my best to allow other interests to feed it. Knowledge and feeling may come from the unexpected and one must be open to everything, if possible.> Where did you begin with artistic endeavours?

What are your interests?I'm a 26-year-old writer and artist trying to find my way in the world. Saturday Spotlight: Volume 053An Interview with-BlauBeerKuchen:iconBlauBeerKuchen:BlauBeerKuchen's Gallery> Please introduce yourself, in your own words. What are your interests?Hi, and thank-you for the invitation! I set up my presence on deviantART under a screen-name that is German, and it means BlueBerryCake in English. It's pronounced more-or-ess like "blauw-bear-koo-khen", and was maybe not exactly the smartest idea, but now I am BBK here and that's fine.I was born and raised in Germany, studied sociology and languages, and I've been working as a freelance translator (from English into German) for literature for quite a few years now; I love my job. Before this, I had a couple of y

What are your interests? My name is Joel, and I'm currently a student in Baltimore, Maryland - a decrepit city in a historic state located on the east coast of the United States. I lived in South Africa for most of my childhood before moving to the USA. Other than photography, I'm particularly interested in the subjects of psychology, and history. I enjoy philosophy, although I try to only ever philosophise by accident. Music is another area of great preoccupation, in particular ambient music, or anything that creates a pleasing atmosphere or mood.> W
A Glimpse into Hyperrealism ArtIntroductionHyperrealism is a genre of painting and sculpture that resembles a high quality Photograph, It's the type of art that your mind might not accept it as a hand-made artwork. Hyperrealism is far more advanced than Photorealism by the methods used to create the resulting paintings or sculptures. The term is primarily applied to an independent art movement and art style in the United States and Europe that has developed since the early 2000s.Hyperrealistic paintingHyperrealistic paintings are the k
DeviantART'S 12th Birthday Gameshow: Starting soonDeviantART Birthday Gameshow is starting in just FIFTEEN MINUTES!We're looking for game players to come and join in our deviantART Birthday Event! In just a short while 3wyl and myself are hosting an interpretation of a British game show called Pointless. The idea of the game is that you have to guess the least popular answer to a multiple answers question. You will be awarded points accordingly, those with the most points will win - but you will have used pointless answers to get there! We'll have pre-judged the least popular and most popular answers by asking a panel of CVs beforehand for their responses. Want an example? Name a Film Starring Tom Cruise Okay so Mission Impossible is a really high answer and if you said that one, you'd get lots of points. Which isn't good! If you said Rain Man - you'd possibly be getting less points. But if you said something like Endless Love or Taps, then you'd be hitting on an answer tha

Forum Features: Hot!Once again, the CV team is here featuring the works of dA's beloved forumers! Once per month we'll select one active user in the forums and we'll feature his or her gallery. This is someone we believe represents the forums well with both good forum-abilities and art.As we're kind (and awesome), we also decided to give an opportunity to everybody to get featured! Every month, we'll create a thread in the Deviation Thumbshare Forum with a different theme. This thread will be made into a sticky for easy access. All you have to do is post thumbs from your gallery matching the theme and, at the end of the month, we'll select our favorite thumbs from that thread and feature them in the next news article The best thing is that the only requirement is that you're an active member of the forums!Featured Forumer of the Month: creyk. selected by alexandrasalas"A nice po
A (modern) history of dA emoticonsIntroAs you wander around deviantART pages, there is noticeably one art medium that invades almost every element of the site. Whether it is the deviantART galleries, journals, news section, comments, forums, chatrooms, avatars or even dA profiles, it is hard to find a spot that hasn't been infiltrated by a familiar set of small, coloured, pixel circles. The art form I am talking about is of course the emoticon and throughout the past 10 or so years they have been happily adopted by deviantART and its community.Although emoticons can often be spotted on a wide range of other instant messengers (IMs) and social media sites, deviantART has come to house a unique branch of these miniature art pieces. Whilst the majority of these alternative sites opt for simple, predominately yellow emotes with a range of basic expressions, the art community here at dA have stretched the art form far beyond its natural boundaries and developed entirely new styles of emoticons
