Cosmological redshift is the apparent blurring of objects moving in space. The amount of redshift is defined by their relative speed compared to the observer. The faster the object is moving, the more redshift there will be. It's a major argument of the Big-bang/expanding universe theory.
So, here's an image that you don't see every day with naffy point-and-shoot cameras. With a maximum exposure time of 1/2 a second, I tilted the camera after pressing the shutter to capture this effect. It took scores of attempts and even now I am not particularly happy with the outcome. It is definitely an image I shall try again with my 40D.
I'm not sure how this is going to look on other monitors. If it's vastly over-saturated, let me know and I'll tone it down; make sure your monitors are correctly calibrated first, though!
